A renowned hotel and dining establishment abruptly closed its doors after operating for 46 years, causing deep disappointment among its patrons.

Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, has officially ceased operations. The hotel, boasting 65 rooms and situated along St Michael’s Road by the canal, has terminated all its employees.

A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, confirming its shutdown. The expansive property spanned nearly 14 acres and featured a pub, eatery, sports pavilion, event spaces, a cricket field, bowling green, and three parking lots.

According to the Lancashire Post, a statement on the note read: “After 46 years of service, we regret to announce the closure of Guy’s Thatched Hamlet.

“This decision was challenging and well-considered. We express our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal customers, staff, and suppliers for their enduring support.

“The hamlet held significant meaning for many individuals, and as it transitions, our focus is on concluding this chapter.”

Heartbroken customers have taken to social media to share their sentiments. One individual recalled, “This is where my partner proposed to me in 2012,” while another lamented, “I got engaged here in 2015. Such a loss.”

A third person added, “I frequented Guys for years, proposed to my significant other in the restaurant, and received applause from fellow diners. It’s saddening that it’s no more, and hopefully, someone will preserve its essence.”

The Wilkinson family has overseen the business since 1980 and listed it for sale last year, citing a net turnover of approximately £4.2 million without a specified guide price.

The property, known for its 65 en suite guest rooms, drew considerable leisure and commercial clientele due to its strategic location near the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland. Positioned conveniently on the A6 near Bilsborrow village and adjacent to the Lancaster Canal, the establishment was within a short drive of the M6 and M55 motorway junction.

Having undergone extensive refurbishments and expansions over the past four decades, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet had earned a reputation as a distinctive and esteemed destination in the North West of England. The business enjoyed steady year-round patronage, with peak activity during the summer and holiday seasons.
