A tragic incident during the holiday season has left a young boy as the only survivor of his family after a severe head-on collision involving a suspected drunk driver. The heartbreaking crash took place around 2 am on December 20, resulting in the deaths of most members of the Contreras family as they were returning from a Christmas gathering in Fort Bend. Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, 27, and five-year-old Camila Peña lost their lives at the scene. The three-year-old boy and his father, 26-year-old Diego Peña Jr, were airlifted to the hospital, but sadly, the father passed away while the child remains in stable yet critical condition.
The driver responsible, Majesti Faith Lee, 27, has been arrested and faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. The family, from Harris County, was traveling north when Lee allegedly drove south in the wrong direction. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the tragic accident. Lee also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan expressed condolences to the family, emphasizing the devastating impact of impaired driving and the importance of making responsible decisions while driving. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by the siblings of Lizbeth and Diego to support the young orphan and help cover medical expenses for the family.
The GoFundMe page highlighted how Lizbeth and Diego prioritized their children, with Diego embracing fatherhood enthusiastically and working hard alongside Lizbeth to provide for their family. Lizbeth, a beloved 4th-grade teacher, cherished being a mother to her children. Camila, with her infectious smile, was a source of joy to those around her. The fundraising effort has nearly reached its $100,000 goal. Majesti Faith Lee’s bail has been set at $1,050,000.
