Residents in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, are saddened by the closure announcement of a long-standing family-owned art and stationery store, Clarkes of Sussex. The store, operating for over 40 years, shared the news of its permanent closure on social media, citing that the time had come to shut its doors in April, without specifying an exact date. The announcement has garnered emotional responses from loyal customers, expressing their fondness for the shop and its staff.

Last year, Clarkes of Sussex ceased operations at its Brighton location after 25 years in business. Despite the closure in Burgess Hill, the company still maintains other stores in Sussex, including one in Haywards Heath. Additionally, a separate Clarkes store in Lewes is also set to close in March.

Jay Patel, the owner of Clarkes of Sussex, conveyed his mixed emotions regarding the closure in a heartfelt social media post. He expressed gratitude to the community for their support over the years, emphasizing the meaningful relationships established with customers. Patel acknowledged the significant role customers played in his personal and professional journey, expressing deep appreciation for their loyalty and kindness.

As the Burgess Hill store prepares to bid farewell, Patel reflected on the cherished memories and connections forged with customers, pledging to carry these sentiments forward. He extended his best wishes for the future to patrons, thanking them for their integral role in his life’s journey. The closure marks the end of an era for Clarkes of Sussex in Burgess Hill, leaving behind a legacy of community rapport and shared experiences.
