In a brutal act of violence, a callous murderer fatally attacked his roommate following a dispute over toilet paper. Kenneth Matthews, a generous individual who had provided shelter to Franklin Paul Crow, was tragically betrayed by Crow, resulting in a devastating outcome for Kenneth’s family.

Approximately a year after their initial meeting, Crow viciously assaulted Kenneth, inflicting multiple blows with a sledgehammer handle and hammer. The severity of the injuries was so extreme that Kenneth’s identity had to be confirmed using existing fingerprints.

Kenneth, a 58-year-old auto parts delivery man, sustained severe injuries, including a skull fracture and broken fingers. His body was found at his residence by the landlord, leading to Crow’s arrest two days after the heinous crime.

The tragic incident occurred in Moss Bluff, Florida, in February 2006. Crow, with a history of prior convictions, initially denied the murder but later accepted a 30-year prison term for second-degree murder in exchange for a guilty plea.

In a heartfelt letter written from his cell in April 2008, Crow expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging the consequences of his choices. Despite the family’s desire for harsher punishment, Crow’s sentencing brought a sense of closure, albeit not the justice they had hoped for.

During the court proceedings, Midge Pennington, Kenneth’s devoted sister, conveyed her anguish in a letter read aloud by the prosecutor, questioning the motive behind the senseless killing and expressing deep sorrow over her brother’s brutal death.
