Oliver Bearman encountered significant discomfort after a high-speed collision in the Japanese Grand Prix. The British racer urgently sought help from marshals after losing control of his Formula 1 car and crashing into a barrier.
Witnesses observed two marshals aiding Bearman in walking after he was removed from the Haas car, showing signs of intense pain. He limped visibly and eventually collapsed behind the barrier, clutching his right lower leg and ankle, leading to the dispatch of the medical car for assistance.
Bearman was swiftly taken to the circuit medical center for further evaluation. A Haas representative later confirmed that X-rays showed no fractures, only a bruise on his right knee. The incident caused a delay in the Grand Prix as the damaged Haas vehicle was recovered and the barrier repaired.
The race resumed with Kimi Antonelli leading the restart on lap 28, benefiting from the safety car timing as he had not yet pitted. Antonelli maintained his lead comfortably, with Oscar Piastri in second place but starting to lose ground. Lewis Hamilton’s aggressive driving also impacted the race, overtaking George Russell to secure third place.
Russell expressed frustration over team radio for pitting just before the safety car appearance, while Antonelli benefited from the timing after a challenging start from pole position. Russell faced further issues on lap 37, losing positions due to a deployment problem.
Piastri maintained his position in second, gradually falling behind Antonelli. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen encountered difficulties advancing in sixth and eighth place, respectively. Verstappen struggled to overtake Pierre Gasly’s Alpine with his Red Bull car.
