Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area, where a pilot is suspected to have disappeared following a recent flight. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating air and marine search and rescue efforts throughout Ontario, announced on social media platform X that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The matter has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, as indicated by the JRCC. The post did not explicitly confirm whether the aircraft belonged to the missing 73-year-old pilot, identified by authorities as David.
According to Durham police, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m. He typically flies in the area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Previously, the Ontario Provincial Police described the plane as a small blue homemade craft with the letters “FOFZ” displayed on its tail. David, characterized as an experienced pilot, stands at five feet seven inches tall with a slender build, sporting black and gray hair along with a moustache.
