A family residing in Squamish, British Columbia, had a narrow escape from a construction mishap on Hamilton Street’s 1800 block. Claire Johnstone and her family were in their car when a scaffold collapsed next to them on August 11. Startled by the loud crash, Johnstone quickly reacted to protect her young son and urged her husband to drive away from the falling structure.

Feeling vulnerable and powerless, Johnstone described the frantic moments inside the car as they feared for their safety. Fortunately, they managed to park the car and exit safely to assess the situation. Two men were injured in what authorities termed a workplace accident, prompting a police investigation that led to the closure of the affected area.

Despite the close call, Johnstone and her family proceeded to the hospital for a check-up for their son, Theo. Reflecting on the incident, Johnstone was shaken by the realization that the falling debris narrowly missed causing harm to her child. The emotional toll of the event lingered, leaving Johnstone sleepless and anxious in the aftermath.

Grateful for their safety, Johnstone couldn’t help but contemplate the “what-ifs” and the fragility of life. The damage to their Tesla served as a stark reminder of the peril they narrowly avoided. While shaken by the incident, Johnstone found solace in cherishing the time spent with her son, realizing the value of every moment shared together.
