To remedy the situation, employee and artist Drake Landon was tasked by his manager to create a replacement poster inspired by the internet meme character Spooderman.
Although Landon offered to draw an actual Spider-Man poster, he obliged and sketched a Spooderman version resembling the “Brand New Day” design. Alongside his drawing, Landon included a brief message apologizing for the absence of the official posters and any resulting inconvenience.
The hand-drawn Spooderman poster caught the attention of movie-goer Adam Woodrow, who found it impressive during his visit to the Famous Players theatre with his son Rogan. Rogan, in turn, snapped a photo of Landon next to his creation and shared it on local community platforms, sparking significant online buzz.
The online posts about Landon and his Spooderman poster quickly gained traction, amassing thousands of likes across various platforms, including the Marvel Studios subreddit where it garnered over 54,000 upvotes. Encouraged by the positive feedback, some have suggested that Landon should draw all movie posters at the theatre or market his Spooderman artwork.
While Landon appreciates the recognition, he expressed a preference for drawing robots, intricate machinery, and weapons in his leisure time. He attributed much of the credit for the idea to the original creator of the Spooderman meme.
Landon’s father, Craig, expressed pride in his son’s creative talents, noting that Drake has been drawing for years and deserves the attention he is receiving. Despite being somewhat overwhelmed by the sudden exposure, Craig acknowledged the power of online virality in today’s world.
Cineplex announced their intention to replace Landon’s Spooderman poster with the official “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” poster but assured that the hand-drawn version would find a new display spot within the theatre. Landon mentioned his plans to produce prints of the now-famous poster.
