The World Nomad Games, an event celebrating traditional nomadic sports, is currently underway in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes from 104 countries are participating in the games, highlighting sports from the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The various events will conclude this Sunday.
The 6th edition of the Games is taking place at Kyrchyn Gorge, located approximately 314 kilometers east of the capital city of Bishkek. Participants and spectators have gathered at the venue throughout the week for the festivities.
During the competitions, participants have showcased various skills and traditions. From holding golden eagles for competition to interacting with hunting birds, the cultural richness of the games is on full display. One such competition involves the traditional equestrian discipline called “tyiyn enmei,” where riders gallop at high speeds to pick up coins or pouches from the ground while remaining mounted.
In addition to the competitive events, spectators have been enjoying the food and craftsmanship displays. Kyrgyz women have been demonstrating their craftsmanship skills by spooling wool, showcasing the cultural heritage and talents of the region.
The games also feature traditional Central Asian sports like “kok-boru” (gray wolf) or “buzkashi” (goat grabbing), where mounted players compete by throwing the carcass of a headless goat into a well. Archery competitions and other cultural activities have added to the vibrant atmosphere of the World Nomad Games.
