The Canadian government has allocated $76 million in emergency assistance to support Flair Airlines amidst the escalating costs of jet fuel impacting airline profitability. Len Corrado, the CEO of Flair Airlines, expressed appreciation for the financial aid, emphasizing that it highlights the government’s acknowledgment of the industry’s challenges and commitment to maintaining competitiveness.

The Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. has confirmed the approval of rescue loans to mitigate the substantial rise in fuel expenses and enhance the affordability of air travel. This financial support, provided as a loan, is expected to be repaid within four years, featuring interest rates below the prevailing market standards.

In a related development, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has received financial assistance totaling $430 million since the onset of the conflict in Iran in late February. The conflict-induced surge in energy prices has led to a significant spike in jet fuel costs, nearly doubling compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, Porter Airlines has also benefited from government support, securing a $125-million bailout loan to navigate the challenging economic landscape.
