The Vancouver Rise made a strong debut with Alex Lamontagne scoring twice as they defeated the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League action. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes also found the back of the net for the Rise, who dominated the second half with four goals. Elise Bell managed to score one for the Rapid, breaking Jessica Wulf’s shutout attempt.
This victory propelled the Rise to fourth place in the league standings, surpassing the Halifax Tide by one point. The Rise now have 22 points from seven wins, one draw, and nine losses. The Rapid, still leading the league with 33 points, are three points ahead of the Montreal Roses after their 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.
In terms of gameplay statistics, the Rise had a slight edge in possession at 53% compared to the Rapid’s 47%. They also outshot the home team 17-8, with 11 shots on target compared to the Rapid’s three. Vancouver earned four corners, while both teams received two yellow cards.
Looking ahead, the Rise will face the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will travel to play AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
