In Montreal, Canadian beach volleyball pair Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Elite16 tournament held on home turf. The duo, who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, defeated Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to secure a spot on the podium.
Brandie Wilkerson dominated the match with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Melissa Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points. The game was briefly halted due to inclement weather before resuming.
Despite a setback in the semifinals where they lost to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, the Canadian pair managed to bounce back and claim the bronze medal against the same German opponents. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had previously won the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal earned during the Paris Games.
Canadian Men Secure Bronze
Meanwhile, Canadian duo Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a comeback to secure the men’s bronze medal in a thrilling match against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. Despite losing the first set 16-21, Schachter and Pickett fought back to win the next two sets 28-26 and 15-12, securing their first podium finish together on Canadian soil.
The Ontario pair had previously caused an upset by defeating the top-ranked world pair to reach the men’s semifinals. Although they fell short in the semifinals against Brazil, losing 2-1, they managed to clinch the bronze in a hard-fought battle.
