Kelly Clarkson engaged in a dispute with a boutique in Brooklyn over the weekend, alleging that she received a dismissive treatment akin to a scene from the movie “Pretty Woman” when inquiring about a unique item’s price that the store claims was not for sale.

The conflict began on Saturday when the singer shared on social media that she had visited a store in Brooklyn that piqued her interest. Clarkson mentioned her intention to make purchases but felt judged by the staff, who suggested finding a comparable item for her.

In response, Clarkson recommended the store to others, drawing parallels to a scenario from the movie “Pretty Woman” where the main character faces snobbish treatment in a high-end boutique.

Art of Play, the store in question, clarified on Sunday that Clarkson had inquired about purchasing “Molly,” a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton permanently affixed to the wall, not intended for sale. The shop acknowledged Clarkson’s feelings of being judged but emphasized their welcoming environment for all customers.

Clarkson retaliated later by sharing a photo displaying a $15,000 price tag next to the wooden bird automaton, accusing the store of being rude and deceitful. The store countered by stating that they offered Clarkson a similar item for sale at $15,000 and also presented another bird automaton priced at $2,000, which she did not stay to see.

The dispute has elicited a mix of reactions online, with some criticizing Clarkson for involving her celebrity status in the matter and others questioning the professionalism of the store’s response. Despite the controversy, the significance of Molly, the wooden bird automaton, and the joy it brings have been highlighted.

The automaton, created by artist Bliss Kolb, is a wall-mounted bright yellow bird that moves realistically when cranked, emitting bird sounds. Molly is part of a collection of wooden automatons by Kolb, with prices ranging from $4,000 to $12,000. The bird features in the magic shows at Art of Play and has captivated audiences with its charm and craftsmanship.
