Russian airstrikes resulted in the deaths of three individuals in Kyiv and left hundreds of thousands without electricity overnight, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks as a blatant disregard for the peace efforts led by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The prolonged missile and drone assault primarily focused on Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, causing significant damage to 30 energy facilities, according to Zelenskyy. The attacks left approximately 600,000 people without power.
Zelenskyy criticized Russia for its deliberate and conspicuous display of disrespect towards the United States, emphasizing that such actions had not been seen before. The assaults continued into the day, resulting in six casualties in Lutsk, where a warehouse and residential building were struck, as reported by the regional governor.
Furthermore, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy expressed dismay over the lack of intelligence warnings from Western allies prior to the missile attacks on Kyiv. Reports surfaced indicating that the U.S. had threatened to cease intelligence sharing with Ukraine if it continued targeting Russian energy infrastructure.
In a separate development, SpaceX’s Starlink services faced restrictions in Ukraine, affecting critical drone operations utilized for extended-range strikes in occupied areas. Ukrainian officials highlighted the disruption caused by these limitations, with Poland questioning Elon Musk’s role in the situation.
During his visit to the U.K., Zelenskyy engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Andy Burnham, with the latter reaffirming Britain’s unwavering support for Ukraine amid the ongoing crisis. Burnham announced plans to provide military aid, including surface-to-air missiles, to bolster Ukraine’s defenses against Russian aggression.
As tensions escalate between Russia and Ukraine, both sides continue to engage in military confrontations, raising concerns about potential disruptions to essential services and infrastructure. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the escalating conflict.
