A former Saskatoon police officer, Robbie Taylor, is appealing his termination following his association with a Hells Angels affiliate. Police Chief Cam McBride dismissed Taylor in March 2025, citing his unsuitability for the role due to his connection with a Hells Angels associate.
At a recent appeal hearing before a three-member panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission in Saskatoon, Taylor’s legal representatives, Scott Hopley and Brian Pfefferle, argued that the decision to uphold his dismissal should be reversed. They contended that while there may have been grounds for discipline, Taylor was still capable of fulfilling his duties as a police officer.
A key issue raised during the appeal process was an allegation of procedural misconduct, which had also been brought up during a weeklong hearing in September 2025. This allegation stemmed from a 2023 complaint received by then-Police Chief Troy Cooper, regarding Taylor’s involvement in a traffic stop incident concerning his unnamed friend.
The complaint, initially brought to Cooper’s attention and subsequently dismissed without disciplinary action, was only disclosed to Taylor’s legal team during the September hearing. Taylor’s lawyers argued that this lack of transparency was unfair and constituted an abuse of process, hindering their preparation for the case.
Ashley Smith, representing the Saskatoon Police Service, maintained that there was no formal document regarding the decision to not pursue action against Taylor. Despite acknowledging the relevance of the information, Smith emphasized that it was not in a format that could be shared.
Smith further asserted that Taylor should have been aware that maintaining a friendship with an individual associated with organized crime was inappropriate. She argued that the severance of trust between McBride and Taylor, as well as the necessity of upholding public trust in the police service, justified Taylor’s dismissal.
Following the proceedings, the panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission, comprising Aaron Fox, Leanne Lang, and John Ajioritis, reserved its decision on the matter.
