Married At First Sight Australia has been packed with drama, feuds and scandal this year from the hopeful bride and grooms looking for love. But amid the drama and bust-ups, one groom has revealed what it’s really like to be a part of the show.
Adrian Araouzou was matched with Awhina Rutene on the show, and now the Aussie groom has revealed some behind-the-scenes secrets.
From how the application process works to not being able to speak to any of the other couples while in the apartments, the 36-year-old lifts the lid on what really goes on during the popular dating show.
Adrian took to TikTok for a “MAFS gossip sesh” where he shared things people may not know. Videoing himself while in the kitchen, the groom said: “The things you don’t know about MAFS and I’m going to drop all the goss.” Firstly, the groom said when applying, not to make this mistake.
“When you are doing the application, you are asked what you do want in a partner and what you don’t want and I advise anyone that applies for the show and wants to go on to not say your non-negotiables.” Adrian alledges that by doing this, the chances are “they’re going to give it to you”.
He claimed that it’s done on purpose and “it’s for the drama”, claiming it happened to him and said: “For example, I said I didn’t want anyone with a child because it gets complicated and what did they give me? Someone with a child.”
Adrian then shared another secret that many people may not know, and it’s when the married couples move into their apartments. “Once you are in the apartments, you are not allowed to speak to the other couples,” and claimed it’s because they “don’t want the drama to unfold in the corridors” and added: “So if you are caught with them, you are advised to go back to your room, and not only are you advised to have time schedules for other couples.”
He revealed they all have allocated time slots for working out in the gym so you “don’t cross paths in the corridor” and suspected it’s so they can “save all the drama for TV”. Adrian also addressed the comments about the cast being “paid actors” and said: “That’s one thing I can assure you, they are not. They’re just big personalities and a bunch of different personalities.”
The groom detailed that once you are on the show for a couple of weeks, you start to “understand the objective” and claimed it is “to create good TV”. He said: “When you go to a dinner party, you know you have to create drama. You know the quicker you credit, the quicker you get out and you get home.”
He said most of the time, if someone is embroiled in drama, after the dinner party, they will laugh it off and move on. “That is why people can stay friends post-show.” He concluded by saying: “And it’s all real, real people, real drama, real gossip, real feelings,” and credited the production team for being “so good at their jobs” that they “get the best TV”.
