Meghan Markle makes ‘powerful’ appearance, says expert alongside unexpected guest Prince Harry

Meghan Markle was all smiles as she arrived at today’s TIME100 Summit, accompanied by husband Prince Harry.

Last week, it was confirmed that the Duchess would be attending the glittering event in New York City, where she spoke alongside fellow A-listers Demi Moore and Ryan Reynolds.

Harry’s appearance was less expected, however, with the Duke turning up in the Big Apple to support his wife amid his ongoing legal battle with the Home Office.

Speaking at today’s summit, which features high-profile individuals who “encourage action toward a better world“, Meghan, 43, declared that she was the “happiest she’s ever been”.

As reported by Harper’s Bazaar, the Duchess of Sussex told audience members: “A confession I can share with you today is that I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. To have a husband and a partner who is so supportive and kids who are healthy and happy, I never imagined at this point I would feel so happy and grateful, and I really do.”

The mother of two wore a tan Ralph Lauren suit, which costs just over $5,000, the Mail Online reports, finishing off the chic look with $180 Veronica Beard brown belt and $495 Stuart Weitzman suede heels. Meanwhile, Harry looked smart in a dapper navy suit.

Body language expert Judi James told the Mirror US how Meghan put on a “display of power” as she made a confident entrance to the glamorous event. Judi said: “Outside in the street on arrival Meghan’s body language signals are of affected humility and even a little shyness. Both arms are raised and bent at a 45 degree angle but the hands ‘wilt’ here, hanging limply from bent wrists in a display of a lack of strength or power.”

This comes as Harry, 40, remains waiting in limbo for the outcome of the latest stage of his legal battle with the Home Office concerning the level of taxpayer-funded personal security he and his family should receive when visiting the UK. The Duke of Sussex was at the Court of Appeal earlier this month for a legal fight he has described as his most important.

Back in February 2020, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) determined that Harry should receive a different degree of taxpayer-funded protection when in the UK after he stepped down from his duties as a working royal. He is currently appealing against a High Court ruling which dismissed his case against the Home Office over this decision last year.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror: “I think Harry is sincere when he says he wants his children to know and understand their heritage. And he has said publicly that he wants his father and his brother back in his life.

“But we now also know that this issue of security is like a red rag to a bull for Harry. He says it is more important than any of his other legal battles. He has a deep-rooted sense of injustice – he believes there was some kind of conspiracy to keep him ‘trapped’ within the Royal Family and to prevent him and his family from leaving the UK. And he seems intent on proving that to be the case.”

“So I don’t think it really is about a burning desire to bring his children and wife to the UK. It is more about his anger at the way he believes he was treated.”
