Thousands of people around the UK have said that the Spotify website and app is not working with the streaming service suffering an outage today. There have been more than 21,000 people who have been hit which appears to be mainly affecting the UK but there have also been minor outages around the world.

So, don’t worry – it’s not just you. Spotify really is down right now. According to users of the hugely popular music streaming service, Spotify is experiencing a number of technical difficulties, leaving listeners unable to tune into tracks or playlists.

Down Detector, an independent website which shows the status of online services, showed that there are more than 21,000 reports that that Spotify isn’t working in the UK. It stated that of those reports 66% had problems with the Spotify app, 18% had website issues and 16% complained about the audio streaming.

There were still thousands affected two hours after reports of the outage spiked and the Spotify website has said it is looking into the cause. It stated: “We’re seeing reports from users that the app isn’t loading properly or that they’re experiencing playback issues. Others report that they’re having issues accessing the Support site. This seems to happen both on mobile and desktop devices.”

And it added: “Our tech folks are currently looking to this!” While the X account Spotify Status, which gives information on the streaming service, wrote: “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!”

The outage in the UK began just after 1pm today and quickly spiked to more than 21,000 people around the country and many have taken to social media to complain. A Down Detector heat map for outages showed that most cases in the UK were in London, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow.

Other European countries including Spain, Netherlands, Belgium and Poland are also affected by the outage and there has also been a large number of reports of a problem in the Philippines. In the United States there was a short spike of 829 reports about 1pm but that quickly went down.

“During the past 24 hours, we have received reports from United Kingdom, Philippines, Netherlands, Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Poland, South Africa, Indonesia, Spain and 5 other countries,” wrote Outage.com

“Spotify is not responding, opens but not uploading albums, only playlists showing but they are not playing either,” said one person on Down Detector website.

Another person wrote: “I can’t play music on my phone but I can on my laptop. Both premium apk” and a further said: “Yep, Definitely down, deleted the app & when I try to log on all it says is that something went wrong and to try again, better than before when it told me I had poor connection.”

And there were other similar complaints with a further comment stating: “Still having issues with Spotify. Since yesterday morning any playlist I open getting message to say playlist is empty. Is anyone else still having issues.” And a person agreed saying: “Same here, I open any playlist or album and it says its empty, doesn’t let me play a song if I search either.”

The issue appears to be affecting in particular the audio on the streaming service. One person wrote: “Yeah same was listening then just cut out and keeps skipping songs randomly,” and another user wrote: “I cant hear anything.”

While one frustrated user complained: “I can’t download the app and it was not playing any audio through my gaming chairs speakers,” and another appealed to other users saying: “Who is having problems with the audio on Xbox?”
