A teaching assistant’s tragic death has led to the upcoming closure of a school to honor her memory. Angela Shellis, a devoted 45-year-old mother, was discovered deceased near football fields in Prestatyn on October 24. Her son, Tristan Thomas Roberts, 18, has been charged with her murder and is awaiting trial next year.
Angela Shellis worked as a teaching assistant at Rhyl High School, where Headteacher Philip Collins praised her as a compassionate and dedicated individual following her passing.
The school is preparing to shut down on December 12 for Angela Shellis’ funeral. In a letter to parents, Headteacher Collins announced the closure to allow staff to attend the service as a gesture of respect towards Shellis and her family. Students will have access to online learning materials through Google Classrooms on that day. Additionally, students eligible for free school meals will receive grab bags of food from the school site.
Mr. Collins expressed understanding for the potential childcare challenges this decision may pose for some families and thanked them for their support during this difficult time. He also acknowledged the impact of Shellis’ loss on the school community and extended condolences to her family and friends.
An inquest into Shellis’ death revealed she succumbed to a blunt force head injury. In a statement, her family described her as a cherished daughter, sister, mother, and aunt who will be deeply missed.
