Anthony Joshua’s injuries from a devastating car crash in Nigeria are now feared to be more serious than initially believed. The incident occurred on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, just outside Lagos, involving a black Lexus Jeep colliding with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. While Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized for treatment, tragically, the crash claimed the lives of his close friends, Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria promptly shared its preliminary findings, stating that the crash involved a black Lexus Jeep and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. Out of the five adult males involved, two lost their lives, one sustained injuries, and two escaped unharmed. Joshua survived with minor injuries and was promptly rescued.
Initial investigations suggest that the Lexus Jeep, suspected of exceeding the speed limit, lost control during an overtaking attempt and collided with the stationary truck at the roadside.
Despite early reports indicating minor injuries for Joshua, concerns have arisen that his condition might be more severe than anticipated. Sources close to the former heavyweight champion have expressed worries about potential rib and knee injuries.
A video circulating on social media showed Ayodele playing table tennis with Joshua shortly before the accident. Condolences poured in following the tragedy, with Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, leading the tributes on social media. Matchroom Boxing confirmed the passing of personal trainer Latz and strength and conditioning coach Ghami in a heartfelt statement.
In the aftermath, it was confirmed that Joshua sustained injuries in the accident and was hospitalized for assessment and treatment. He is reported to be in a stable condition for observation, while his friends’ families and friends are receiving condolences and privacy during this difficult time.
