The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have issued a joint statement addressing the car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The former heavyweight champion suffered minor injuries in a fatal collision that resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

Both states confirmed that Anthony Joshua was in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The vehicle he was in, carrying a team of four, collided with a stationary truck, leading to the tragic fatalities. The governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for their strength during this challenging time.

Following the incident, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were promptly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments confirmed that both individuals are stable and do not require immediate emergency medical treatment. A dedicated medical team is closely monitoring their condition, with Anthony Joshua being conscious and in contact with his family.

The Ogun and Lagos State Governments assured that the affected individuals will receive top-quality medical care and that investigations into the accident have already commenced. They appreciated the public’s concern and requested privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family at this moment.

The statement was co-signed by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.

The accident involved a black Lexus Jeep, driven by Joshua, which collided with a stationary lorry on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria reported that five adult males were involved, with two fatalities, one injury, and two individuals escaping unharmed. The injured person received medical attention, and the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. According to preliminary findings, the Lexus Jeep was suspected of speeding and lost control while attempting to overtake, crashing into the parked truck.
