Authorities have revealed new details about the alleged gunman involved in the incident at Brown University.

The suspect, described as a man dressed entirely in black, entered the Barus and Holley engineering building at around 4:05 p.m. local time and initiated gunfire, according to statements made during a press conference on the campus in Providence, Rhode Island, held on Saturday evening.

At least two fatalities have been reported, with eight others sustaining critical injuries. The injured individuals are now in stable condition at the hospital. The perpetrator is believed to have escaped on foot, heading towards Hope Street. The last sighting of the shooter was shortly after 4 p.m. when the initial emergency call was made.

A statement from the prestigious Ivy League institution confirmed the tragic events, stating, “We have received confirmation of two fatalities from the shooting incident at the Barus and Holley engineering building.”

The university also mentioned that eight other victims are in critical but stable condition at the medical facility. A shelter-in-place order remains in effect as the shooter or shooters have not been apprehended. Law enforcement is actively working in the area to address the situation.

It is suspected that the perpetrator may have gained entry with the help of individuals in the building. Officials highlighted the high traffic in the area due to ongoing final exams, which might have facilitated the suspect’s access.

According to authorities, no weapons were recovered at the scene, and the type of firearm used in the incident remains unknown.
