A mother of three tragically lost her life after sheltering a stray dog that later turned aggressive, attacking her own pet. Barbara Brewington, aged 38, was discovered by authorities in the backyard of her Bonnetsville residence in North Carolina on November 23. She had taken in a mixed breed stray dog six months earlier, which unexpectedly began assaulting her smaller dog before redirecting its aggression towards Barbara as she intervened.
Despite sustaining severe injuries, Barbara’s pet survived the ordeal, while the stray dog was euthanized by an animal control team. Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton reported that deputies found Ms. Brewington severely injured outside her home around 6:30 pm, and despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.
According to Sheriff Thornton, Barbara was attempting to separate the stray dog from her pet when the situation escalated, leading to the fatal attack. Barbara managed to protect her smaller dog and bring it indoors before collapsing. Described as a dedicated mother, Barbara was married, had three children, and worked as a dental assistant at Village Family Dental.
A GoFundMe page was established by her sister, Samantha, to support Barbara’s children, praising her as a beacon of love and joy. The fundraising effort has already surpassed $24,700 of its $26,000 goal. Colleagues and friends shared heartfelt tributes, remembering Barbara as a loving mother and a cherished presence.
Online tributes continue to pour in for Barbara, offering condolences to her husband Bradley and commemorating her warm and kind spirit. The community mourns the loss of a beloved individual, expressing sympathy and remembrance for Barbara and her family during this difficult time.
