Police reported a significant seismic event in England overnight, with residents hearing a loud explosion. The British Geological Survey confirmed a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck Lancashire at 11:23 pm, affecting areas including Carnforth, Morecambe, Heysham, Burton-in-Kendal, and Arnside.
A spokesperson from Lancaster Police informed on Facebook that they received reports of a loud explosion in the Carnforth area at the same time, attributing it to the minor earthquake near the Lancashire and Cumbria border. Emergency services are on-site, but there have been no reports of injuries or damage. Individuals are urged to report any property damage by contacting 101 and quoting log 1613 of December 3.
The earthquake was also reportedly felt in Blackpool, Cleveleys, and Kendal, with Lancashire Police stating no injuries or damages have been reported. Sky News mentioned that the tremor was felt across the South Lakes and Lancashire, mainly within a 20-kilometer radius of the epicenter. Residents took to social media to share their experiences, with one mentioning it felt stronger than 3.4 magnitude, another mistaking it for a child falling out of bed, and a third being woken up in Morecambe.
