German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender are set to receive honors at a lavish banquet held at Windsor Castle tonight, as part of their three-day state visit to the UK.
In line with tradition, a specially curated menu in French style has been prepared for the esteemed guests, including an appetizer of open tartlet with hot smoked trout, langoustines, quail eggs, and shellfish sauce.
The main course features Windsor Partridge Supreme encased in puff pastry with confit cabbage and Port sauce, served with crushed carrots, swede, and seasonal vegetables. For dessert, guests will indulge in Baked Alaska with blackberry, vanilla, and raspberry ice creams, followed by coffee and Petit Fours. A custom cocktail inspired by a Black Forest gateau flavor will be served, along with Château La Fleur-Pétrus, Pomerol, 1995 wine to commemorate the couple’s wedding year.
This evening’s menu contrasts starkly with the meal served to US President Donald Trump during his state visit in September, highlighting the unique culinary experience offered on different state occasions.
The German state visit commenced with a warm welcome from the Prince and Princess of Wales at Heathrow airport. Following formal introductions, the presidential couple enjoyed a ceremonial carriage procession through Windsor’s streets alongside the King and Queen, accompanied by ceremonial troops from various military branches.
Marking the first German presidential state visit in 27 years and only the fifth from Germany since 1958, this visit also signifies the third inward state visit for King Charles this year, following receptions for French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump earlier.
The state visit promises to strengthen international ties and diplomatic relations, as well as showcase the rich cultural heritage shared between Germany and the UK.
