Amazon has kicked off its own rapid grocery delivery service, promising deliveries within 30 minutes. Customers can select from a variety of groceries and household items, ranging from milk and eggs to diapers and medications.
The move pits Amazon against supermarkets that have partnerships with delivery services offering similar speedy deliveries. Last September, Amazon announced the closure of all its Amazon Fresh grocery stores, leading to this new initiative.
The Amazon Now service is presently being trialed in specific London postcodes in the Southwark area, with plans for expansion in the near future. Delivery riders, recruited through Amazon Flex, will facilitate the quick deliveries via bicycle.
John Boumphrey, Amazon UK’s country manager, expressed excitement about Amazon Now, emphasizing the swift delivery of thousands of products. This service underscores Amazon’s commitment to rapid delivery, enhancing the convenience for customers nationwide.
Following a collaboration with Gopuff in July, Amazon has introduced this ultra-fast delivery service. Prime members can benefit from discounted delivery fees starting at £1.99 per order, while non-members pay £3.99. Regardless of membership, a £2 fee is applicable for orders under £15.
Amazon plans to share more updates on this service in the upcoming months as part of its ongoing efforts to simplify and expedite the shopping experience for UK customers. The company’s focus on online delivery services aligns with its decision to shut down its physical grocery stores in the UK last year.
