Eddie Hearn has given an update on Anthony Joshua, who has returned to training after losing two close friends in a car accident. Joshua, 36, was in a tragic crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Despite only sustaining minor injuries, Joshua narrowly escaped death by changing seats before the journey. Recently, the former heavyweight champion was seen back in the gym in Dubai, putting on his gloves once again.
Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter with Matchroom Boxing, met with Joshua and shared a message on Instagram. He praised Joshua for his resilience and strength, acknowledging the heaviness of the loss and the support shown for his late friends.
Following the accident, doubts have surrounded Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn previously stated that Joshua would take an extended break from the sport.
Hearn emphasized the need to give Joshua time to recover and make his own decisions regarding his boxing career. He highlighted the emotional toll of the incident on everyone involved, especially the families of Latif and Sina.
Joshua has not addressed the speculations about his future in boxing yet. In a heartfelt tribute on social media, he expressed gratitude for the love and memories shared with his departed friends.
Legal proceedings against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver in the accident, will resume on Tuesday. Kayode faces charges related to the fatal crash.
