The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list due to concussion symptoms on Saturday. In his absence, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo. This move led to the designation for assignment of right-hander Lazaro Estrada to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo, while right-hander Chase Lee was sent down to Triple-A. Guerrero sustained the concussion symptoms during Friday’s game against the Yankees when he collided with New York’s rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. while attempting to reach third base in the sixth inning.
The collision occurred as Lombard tried to clear Guerrero’s slide at third base, unintentionally striking Guerrero’s head with his knee and thigh, causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off. Despite the impact, Guerrero managed to score a run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the seventh inning.
Following the game, Blue Jays manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero experienced a headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, is a key player for the team. Meanwhile, Tiedemann, who had a 0-1 record and a 6.43 ERA in seven games (including two starts) across different minor league levels this season, was also part of the roster changes.
