The team clinched the bronze medal by defeating Mexico 34-26 in a thrilling match that ended in overtime with a crucial interception by Guillaume Béland.

This victory not only marked a significant milestone for the team but also guaranteed Canada a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where flag football will debut as an event for the first time. Looking ahead to the Olympics, Tachinski expressed his anticipation and eagerness to represent Canada on such a prestigious stage. He highlighted the incredible experience of competing at the world championship and the prospect of being part of the Olympic Village atmosphere.

In a parallel success story, Canada’s women’s flag football team also secured their Olympic berth by defeating the U.S. 27-20, capping off an undefeated run. Quarterback Sara Parker was recognized as the tournament’s most valuable player for her outstanding performance.

Support for both teams poured in, with Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea expressing immense pride and admiration for their achievements. The prospect of CFL and NFL players participating in the 2028 Olympics added another layer of excitement to the upcoming event.
