Canadian defender Moise Bombito credits a conversation with national team coach Jesse Marsch for his decision to prioritize playing in the FIFA World Cup despite facing physical challenges. Bombito, a 26-year-old center back, is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left tibia once more, as announced by his club team Nice. The Ligue 1 side revealed that the Montreal native has been grappling with persistent pain, leading to a leg scan and the subsequent decision for surgery.

In an interview with Nice, Bombito shared how Marsch’s discussion about the World Cup being hosted in his home country motivated him to commit to the tournament, despite his leg issues. Following an initial tibia fracture on October 5, Bombito managed to return in time to participate in Canada’s matches this summer. Despite his efforts to contribute, he acknowledged that his performance was hindered by the ongoing leg discomfort.

Expressing disappointment over the situation, Bombito emphasized his determination to overcome the setback and fully recover. He highlighted the challenges he faced due to the persistent pain, noting that it significantly impacted his ability to perform at his best. Despite the difficulties, Bombito remains focused on regaining full fitness to play at his peak level for both club and country.

Having joined Nice in 2024 after his time with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer, Bombito made an impressive start with 35 appearances in his debut season before injuries limited his playing time in the subsequent campaign. The defender’s commitment to his recovery and his aspirations to return stronger highlight his resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
