The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer who participated in three Women’s World Cups and secured a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, has coaching experience in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently in Saudi Arabia.
Following the announcement by current head coach Katrine Pedersen of her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the end of the season, Moscato will take over as head coach. The Rapid confirmed that Moscato has signed a two-season agreement and will commence preparations for the 2027 season, focusing on recruitment.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato, citing her strong leadership, coaching expertise, and extensive knowledge of Canadian soccer. Moscato, in turn, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to continue building on the Rapid’s progress and creating an environment for players to excel and compete at the highest level.
Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa is gearing up for their next game in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., which will be broadcast live on CBC Gem.
