CrossCountry has released an important update to its Christmas schedule following the strike announcement last month, causing uncertainty among travelers. The train company has confirmed that a regular timetable will be in place starting Saturday, December 6, as the planned industrial action has been suspended. As a result, regular services are scheduled for December 6, 13, 20, and 27.

Shiona Rolfe, Managing Director of CrossCountry, expressed satisfaction that the RMT had called off the planned strikes for December, and they are eager to serve passengers during the festive season. While aiming to resume the normal timetable on Saturdays, there may be some last-minute cancellations due to the limited time available to restore services.

Additionally, Rolfe mentioned that ongoing engineering work on certain parts of the network might lead to alterations in travel routes. The RMT union had initially declared the strike on November 21, citing unresolved issues relating to pay, staffing, and previous agreements with CrossCountry.

Eddie Dempsey, General Secretary of RMT, emphasized last month that the core issues in the dispute had not been adequately addressed by CrossCountry. He stated that the company’s proposed resolution was inferior to the existing offer, leaving members grappling with unresolved staffing shortages, unfair pay outcomes, and unmet commitments. Consequently, RMT members felt compelled to initiate strike action, urging the company to present a substantial offer that aligns with its commitments and upholds the dignity and fairness owed to the workforce.
