At least 25 individuals, including multiple tourists, lost their lives in a fire that broke out at a renowned nightclub in India’s Goa state. According to Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, the majority of the fatalities were kitchen staff from the club, along with a few tourists.

Local authorities suspect that a gas cylinder explosion in the club’s kitchen triggered a massive fire at midnight local time on Saturday. Sawant announced that an investigation will be carried out by the state government to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and whether safety regulations and construction standards were adhered to.

Reportedly, the fire occurred at a club named Birch by Romeo Lane at Baga, a popular beach destination in the coastal region of Goa. However, detailed information has not been provided by the police yet.

Expressing deep sorrow, Pramod Sawant stated that a tragic fire incident in Arpora had claimed the lives of 23 people. He emphasized the importance of a thorough inquiry to determine accountability and ensure adherence to safety protocols. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, extended condolences to the affected families and assured support from the state government.

Authorities worked tirelessly through the night to control the situation, with all bodies recovered as confirmed by the state’s police chief. The Director General of Police in Goa, Alok Kumar, mentioned that the fire primarily affected the kitchen area on the ground floor and has been brought under control. The majority of the deceased were found near the kitchen, indicating they were likely employed at the club.
