Double Cold Weather Payments have been distributed to certain households this week following snowfall in various parts of the UK.

Cold Weather Payments, valued at £25 each, are granted whenever the average temperature in a specific area drops to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days. In cases of prolonged freezing conditions, multiple payments may be received.

Currently, 18 postcode regions have qualified for two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50, due to triggers on December 30 and January 6.

The Mirror recently disclosed that 451 postcode areas are eligible for Cold Weather Payments this year. Qualification for a payment is based on receiving certain benefits or mortgage support.

Payments are typically deposited into your bank account automatically within 14 working days if you are eligible. However, a separate application is required if you have a baby or a child under the age of five moves in with you.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) oversees the distribution of Cold Weather Payments, with the scheme scheduled to continue until March 31, 2026.

In Scotland, Cold Weather Payments have been substituted with the Winter Heating Payment, valued at £59.75.
