A man in his sixties was fatally attacked by a wild monkey in his residence in Yala, southern Thailand. The victim, identified as Chaiphum Sae-eung, reportedly struggled to defend himself against the aggressive monkey, which had been causing distress to locals in the area. The monkey scratched and then bit Chaiphum, leaving him with multiple bite marks.

Chaiphum’s body was discovered with numerous bite wounds, and he was found holding a metal rod that he likely used to fend off the monkey. The authorities also identified the monkey’s footprints in dried blood at the scene. The macaque, a male pig-tailed monkey, was later located on the house’s rafters.

Local villagers mentioned previous aggressive behavior by the monkey, including an incident where it bit Chaiphum on the shoulder. Before the fatal encounter, the monkey had forced a family out of their home. Law enforcement officers are actively pursuing the monkey to ensure the safety of residents, issuing a directive to eliminate the threat posed by the animal.

Police Major Jakkarin emphasized the necessity of neutralizing the monkey due to the potential danger it poses to the community. In various regions of Thailand, monkeys, particularly macaques, have been causing disturbances by intruding into buildings and engaging in theft activities.
