When it comes to the holiday season, one of the most iconic images is a stack of beautifully wrapped gifts nestled under a Christmas tree. However, for many individuals, the task of wrapping these carefully selected presents can be a dreaded chore. According to a survey, a staggering 70% of people dislike the process of gathering paper, scissors, and tape, with only 20% feeling confident in their wrapping abilities. More than half of respondents consider wrapping gifts to be the least enjoyable part of the festive period, and 67% experience “festive frustration” within just 16 minutes if the wrapping paper is uncooperative.
Common frustrations include struggling to locate the end of the tape (51%), tape sticking in the wrong places (39%), running out of paper (35%), cutting sheets too small (30%), and depleting tape supplies due to excessive use (29%). Surprisingly, one in five (21%) individuals in the UK confess that they simply cannot wrap gifts, while 60% feel stressed when faced with oddly shaped presents, as per a recent study.
A round gift poses a challenge for 21% of people, and 17% consider accidentally tearing the paper to be the ultimate wrapping nightmare. In moments of frustration, 33% have resorted to tearing up the wrapping paper, 28% have thrown the tape, 22% have shouted, and 13% have even screamed. Nearly a quarter (24%) have abandoned wrapping altogether in sheer frustration.
To address these wrapping woes, expert gift wrapper Jane Means offers valuable insights on how to improve gift presentation and shares her top 10 tips for achieving flawless wrapping. Teaming up with The Motor Ombudsman, Jane, known for wrapping gifts for The Royal Household and celebrities, sheds light on common wrapping mistakes and the importance of creating anticipation and delight when presenting gifts.
Jane explains, “Wrapping presents may seem straightforward, but many struggle with it. Using the right amount of paper, proper folding techniques, and avoiding excessive tape can make the process much smoother and less stressful.”
In an effort to alleviate the stress of gift wrapping, Jane collaborated with The Motor Ombudsman to introduce the UK’s first Car-istmas drive-through wrapping service. With individuals typically needing to wrap an average of 18 gifts before Christmas, this unique service allows participants to drive up, hand over their gifts to Jane for expert wrapping, and save around 56 minutes of wrapping stress – all while staying in the comfort of their car. In addition to the wrapping service, mechanics are available to perform quick vehicle checks, ensuring a safe and smooth journey for both drivers and their gifts.
Alex Lindley, CEO of The Motor Ombudsman-accredited Lindleys Autocentres group of garages, which hosted the inaugural Car-istmas drive-through, emphasized the importance of preparing vehicles for safe holiday travels to avoid any disruptions during the festive season.
