In a peculiar incident caught on CCTV during the late hours on an empty street, a fly tipper wearing an unusual costume has left residents in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, puzzled. The individual, disguised as a purple dinosaur, was seen dumping rubbish in an act of fly-tipping. Despite the presence of surveillance cameras installed by the local council to address previous dumping incidents, the perpetrator dressed as a T. rex managed to evade identification and avoid a potential fine of £400 for littering in a public area.
A video shared by the news website Your Southend captured the moment when the person in the dinosaur outfit carried out the unlawful act by depositing two bin bags on the pavement. Witnesses described the scene, with one resident mentioning their surprise at the sight the night before the scheduled bin collection day, speculating that the individual might be struggling to comply with new waste disposal regulations. Another resident humorously referred to the culprit as “Barney the Dinosaur” engaging in mischievous behavior.
To aid in the identification of the fly tipper, Your Southend initiated an appeal featuring a wanted poster describing the suspect as around 2 meters tall with distinctive short T. rex-like arms and a penchant for swinging around lampposts.
Fly-tipping is considered a serious offense in the UK under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, with potential penalties including fines, imprisonment for up to five years, or both for those apprehended engaging in such activities.
