A young football talent, Tahirys Dos Santos of FC Metz, sustained injuries in a tragic fire that claimed 47 lives in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day. Dos Santos, aged 19, was reportedly at Le Constellation Bar in the Swiss ski resort when the fire broke out during the early hours.

Following the incident, the reserve player was airlifted to Germany for treatment of his burns. FC Metz released a statement expressing sorrow over Dos Santos’ injuries, emphasizing their support for him during this challenging period. The club also extended condolences to Dos Santos and his family, pledging assistance in his transfer to a nearby hospital.

The fire, suspected to have been caused by sparklers in champagne bottles, resulted in a devastating loss of lives. Witnesses recounted the rapid spread of flames within seconds, leading to casualties and injuries among those present, predominantly young individuals. The blaze, described as an “embrasement generalise,” caused severe burns and smoke inhalation among the victims.

In response to the tragedy, King Charles III conveyed his deep sadness to the Swiss President, expressing sympathy for the affected individuals and admiration for the emergency responders. The monarch offered prayers for those who lost their lives and those battling critical conditions in hospitals across Switzerland.

Authorities have urged caution to prevent further accidents that could strain the already overwhelmed medical facilities in the region. The community continues to mourn the loss and support those affected by the tragic event, emphasizing the importance of safety measures in such situations.
