In a peculiar missing persons case from nearly 40 years ago, the unresolved vanishing of Theresa Ann Bier in the wilderness of California is under fresh scrutiny. The mystery is unique as it involves a legendary creature, Bigfoot, as one of the key suspects.
Back in June 1987, Theresa, a 16-year-old from Fresno, embarked on an excursion with 43-year-old Russell Welch, also known as Skip, to explore the Sierra Nevada in search of Bigfoot. Their camping trip took an unexpected turn when Theresa never returned.
Initially, Welch claimed he had dropped Theresa off at school, but later altered his story dramatically. He asserted that they had encountered Bigfoot in the Ghost Canyon woods, leading Theresa to chase after the creature. When he looked back, the girl had supposedly been taken by the elusive being.
Despite an extensive search effort in Ghost Canyon, combing through various terrains and recovering Theresa’s belongings at a campsite, no concrete evidence or trace of the young girl emerged. Welch faced charges related to the disappearance but was eventually cleared due to insufficient evidence and the absence of Theresa’s remains.
Welch, a firm believer in Bigfoot, passed away in 1998 without revealing any potential secrets regarding Theresa. The recent resurgence of interest in the case comes from a documentary series titled “Bigfoot Took Her,” shedding light on the investigation’s new angles and revisiting past events.
The documentary raises thought-provoking questions about the night of Theresa’s disappearance, prompting a reexamination of whether she simply vanished mysteriously or fell victim to an unsolved crime. Investigator Jessica Chobot and LAPD veteran Robert Collier are at the forefront of reopening this perplexing chapter in hopes of finding closure for Theresa’s unresolved fate.
