Gunfire erupted at a shopping center in Norway this morning, leading to a mass evacuation and prompting emergency crews to respond. Initially, there were reports of injuries at the Storo Storsenter mall, Oslo’s largest shopping center, but officers later confirmed no injuries. A 19-year-old suspect has been taken into police custody.

The public has been advised to steer clear of the area as police believe there was only one perpetrator involved in the shooting incident. According to police spokesperson Tomm Berger, the suspect, a 19-year-old male, made contact with the police before discharging a single shot into the ceiling using a shotgun. Additionally, the teenager was found in possession of a baseball bat and a knife at the time of the incident.

Law enforcement, in collaboration with forensic officers, stated that detectives will continue to be present at the shopping center throughout the afternoon for ongoing investigations. They mentioned that they are conducting forensic examinations at the scene and have gathered evidence, including video surveillance footage. Uniformed personnel will remain at the Storosenteret to provide reassurance to employees and customers.

Oslo police’s operations chief, Tor Grottum, described the morning’s events as a “very serious incident,” emphasizing the importance of prompt action in controlling the suspect. He highlighted the potential for more severe outcomes had the situation not been swiftly addressed.

The police have cordoned off a small section of the shopping mall as the investigation continues. Earlier statements by the force indicated a search for injured individuals, but no injuries were found at the scene. The police confirmed that the suspected shooter, a 19-year-old from Oslo, acted alone during the incident.

Witnesses observed a significant police presence at the scene, including multiple police cars and ambulances, along with a police helicopter circling overhead. Police have advised people to stay away from the Storo Storsenter mall and cautioned against potential further threats. Shoppers were promptly evacuated from the building following the gunfire.

The incident unfolded at the Storo Storsenter shopping mall, Oslo’s largest retail complex, where authorities managed to swiftly take control of the situation.
