Aldi urgently pulls popular food from shelves over fears it could make shoppers ill

Published:

Aldi has recalled its Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter because they could spark allergic reactions. Certain batches of these potatoes contain a packaging error, where milk is not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. The potatoes that have been recalled have a use by date of April 12 and the barcode 4061463488152. If you have purchased this product and you have a milk allergy, you can return it to your nearest Aldi store for a refund.

In a recall notice published on the Aldi website, the supermarket said: “Our supplier is recalling Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter because it contains the allergen milk which is not listed on the packaging. Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“We have removed this product from sale in all stores and are recalling all affected products. Do not consume the product if you have a milk allergy or intolerance and return the product to your nearest store for a full refund.” The supermarket added: “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”

If you have purchased this product and want to contact Aldi, the number is 0800 042 0800, or you can fill out a webform. For all product recalls, you can check the Food Standards Agency and Chartered Trading Standards Institute websites. You should also notice recall notices in stores if they’ve pulled a product from shelves.

We recently reported on how Baxters Sliced Gherkins Crunchy and Sweet had been pulled from shelves because some packs contain mustard which is not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard. Birds Eye also recently recalled packs of Goodfella’s Stonebaked Thin Garlic Bread over fears it could spark an allergic reaction. Marks and Spencer also pulled some chicken products over fears they could be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall notice only applies to Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland stores, and relates to M&S Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and 2x Chicken Kievs. Cheeses that are sold in Tesco Republic of Ireland stores and Spar have also been recalled over fears they could be contaminated with listeria.

The warning has been issued for 18 cheeses that are produced by JOD Food Products because they “may contain” the bacteria. Symptoms of listeria poisoning include a high temperature, aches and pains, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

Listeriosis can sometimes lead to serious and life-threatening problems such as sepsis or meningitis in babies and people with a weakened immune system.
