The ratings for the launch of Celebrity Big Brother‘s new series have been released. The reality TV show returned last week with a host of celebrity housemates now living in the Big Brother house ahead of the final later this month.
Thirteen housemates entered the house last Monday night for ITV‘s second series of its revival. The show – which was previously broadcast by Channel 4 and then Channel 5 – made its return last year, with the first series of the revived Celebrity Big Brother having been won by David Potts.
It’s now been revealed by ITV that last week’s live launch of the latest series has had a reach of 4.2 million. Those behind the show have shared that the episode has had an average of 2.7 million viewers.
The broadcaster has also announced that it’s surpassed 100 million streams for the Big Brother brand on ITV. It’s added that the new series has generated 8 million streams in a week, which is an increased compared to last year.
The news comes following the second eviction, which saw presenter Trisha Goddard voted out of the house last night. She had been up against Coronation Street‘s Jack P. Shepherd and EastEnders star Patsy Palmer.
The three of them had received the most nominations from their fellow housemates. Patsy was named by six of their co-stars, whilst Jack and Trisha received four nominations each. Trisha ended up losing the public vote last night.
Trisha’s departure comes after politician Michael Fabricant became the first housemate to be evicted on Friday last week. Following his eviction, it was announced over the weekend that actor Mickey Rourke had been asked to leave the house following “unacceptable behaviour,” for which he’s apologised.
Following her departure in the live eviction last night, Trisha spoke to hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best. Speaking about her week in the Big Brother house, she told them in her exit interview: “It was an absolutely fantastic experience.”
Trisha – who’s been diagnosed with cancer – also shared that she was “a bit sad” to be leaving the house. She said it had been a “break” for her, saying: “It meant a lot [to be there]. It was respite, a holiday, from having to think about cancer.”
Jack and Patsy – who were saved from the second eviction by viewers – are among the remaining ten housemates on Celebrity Big Brother. The other housemates include presenter Angellica Bell and singer Chesney Hawkes.
Love Island finalist Chris Hughes, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard and former Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa are also still on the show. The remaining housemates also include the Only Way is Essex star Ella Rae Wise, former athlete Daley Thompson and comedian Donna Preston.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight from 9pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player. It will be followed by companion show Late & Live on ITV2 and ITVX at 10pm.
