‘I have sensitive skin and this hydrating body SPF leaves no sticky residue or chalky colour’

Published:

By now we probably don’t need to tell you how important it is to apply SPF, especially when you’re on holiday or planning on being outdoors in the sun all day. But when your suncream leaves you feeling sticky or greasy, or leaves an unflattering chalky white cast on your skin, it makes you all the more reluctant to apply it before heading outside.

As well as these issues, my skin is sensitive and eczema prone, which makes it all the more difficult to find a suncream that I’m actually keen to reapply. However during a recent trip to Arizona (where there’s almost no cloud coverage or shade) I took Ultra Violette’s Extreme Screen Hydrating Body & Hand Skinscreen SPF50+ to try out – and let me tell you, it was a game changer.

First things first, the tube design is genius . We’ve all been there when applying suncream, when your greasy hands mean you can’t properly press a pump mechanism down, or grip a hard plastic bottle properly.

The Ultra Violette Skinscreen however comes in a soft flexible tube with a twist cap, which makes it easy to squeeze out what you need. You then simply twist the cap closed afterwards, which drastically reduces the risk of it popping open in your suitcase or handbag.

It has a gorgeous coconut smell which instantly screams summer, and the consistency is thin enough to be able to spread and rub in easily without being runny or dripping off you. The Ultra Violette Skinscreen soaked straight into my skin and felt dry to the touch in under a minute, without the faintest trace of stickiness or greasy, oily residue.

That meant I could get dressed straight away, and also made reapplying it throughout the day much less hassle. It’s also worth noting it didn’t leave any marks on my clothes, including a white T-shirt and a black vest.

The SPF50+ made sure I didn’t burn at any point (even one day when I forgot to reapply it all day, oops) and you’re fully protected from both UVA and UVB rays. Most importantly though, it didn’t flare up my sensitive, eczema prone skin.

Quite the opposite, in fact. It helped keep it hydrated and soft, and it even has a very subtle shimmer to it which made my skin look glowy and healthy. Whilst it is a chemical SPF, it doesn’t contain Oxybenzone or parabens, and is cruelty free.

The only real down side is that it is pricey for a suncream, being priced at £27. However you do get a huge 150ml bottle, which should last you quite a while, and in my opinion it’s a worthwhile investment to not feel sticky and greasy whilst you’re trying to enjoy your holiday.

If you do want something a little more affordable, the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Spray SPF50 comes in a 200ml bottle, and whilst usually priced at £23.90 it’s currently £19.12 in LookFantastic’s sale. It’s also renowned for not leaving a sticky residue or white cast, with a fast absorption rate that makes it comfortable to wear.
