A Traitors star is giving hungry punters extreme haircuts in exchange for a year’s supply of nachos – despite a survey revealing Brits are more likely to move house than change their barnet.
The Traitors alumni and trained barber Tyler Smith took to the streets of Camden, London, on Monday to give brave participants a new haircut in exchange for a year’s free supply of chicken nachos from Taco Bell. Daring participants were offered up to £1,000 worth of free chicken nachos over the course of a year depending on how short they got their hair cut, to encourage punters out of their comfort zone.
Tyler, who was a fan favourite on Season 3 of the hit BBC show, welcomed fearless passersby into his barber’s chair, one of whom was student Mark Christy.
Despite knowing his partner would be less than happy with his new look, Mark opted for the ‘Nacho Chop’ – a bold hairstyle which sees the whole head shaved off other than a triangle-shaped tuft of hair left at the front.
Mark said: “My girlfriend’s gonna kill me. But hey, I love chicken nachos, so it’s totally worth it.”
Following in Mark’s footsteps, 24-year-old Sam Potter also opted for the ‘Nacho Chop’ – letting Tyler loose on her shoulder-length bob for a year’s supply of free chicken nachos.
Sam Potter said: “I love it! I’ve wanted to have shorter hair for ages but have always been a bit too scared.
“I figured if I’m going to take the plunge then I might as well get something out of it and getting a year’s supply of free chicken nachos sounds like a good deal.”
Lucy Dee at Taco Bell said the restaurant chain’s challenge helps encourage customers to try something new, motivated by the offer of free nachos for a year.
Lucy said: “Many Brits tend to stick to their habits, especially regarding their hairstyle and food choices. There is often a concern of ‘what if I don’t like it or I’m left disappointed?'”
“By launching our ‘Nacho Chop’ challenge, we aimed to encourage consumers to try something new and offered participants the chance to win up to £1,000 worth of free chicken nachos over the course of a year, depending on how much hair they cut off.”
Despite eagerness by Tyler’s on-street clients to alter their look, Taco Bell’s research revealed that just 12 per cent of people would consider a new hairdo, yet 18 per cent of those surveyed would move house.
Almost half (49%) of the 1,000 people polled said they had kept the same hairstyle for as long as they could remember.
Indeed, such is the fear of a bad trip to the barber or hairdresser, 12 per cent said they would rather streak naked in the street than consider a new look.
