Lewisham human remains: Horror as body found in bags near kids playground

A body and human remains have been found inside several bags near a children’s school.

The horrifying discovery took place in Lewisham, South East London on Saturday, by a community team who were working on cleaning up the area. Officers rushed to the scene on Church Grove, SE13, after reports human remains had been found in a garden.

According to reports, members of the local Church Grove project were building a play area when someone saw a human jaw fall out of a gravel bag. Police confirmed the remains were of “interest” and scoured the area for any other evidence of human body parts.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed no arrests have yet been made. An identity is yet to be established, but police said they believe the remains found were “non-recent”.

According to reports, local have been left terrified by the gruesome discovery with parents concerned about the safety of their children. A local told the Sun: “You see this stuff on the news, but it was right outside our front door.

“It’s so much more immediate, you just never think something like this will happen so close to you. We are extremely shaken, I think the whole community is. Tiny kids were playing right next to literal bits of human arm.”

“I’ve literally just had a baby, it’s absolutely terrifying, we moved her to be safe we just don’t know what to do.”

A spokesperson from the Met Police said: “On Saturday, 12 April police were called at 14:08hrs to Church Grove, SE13 following reports that human remains had been unearthed in a garden.

“There have been no arrests at this stage and officers are working to establish an identity, although the remains are thought to be non-recent. Enquiries are ongoing and a crime scene remains in place.”
