A villain makes his return to Coronation Street next week, three years on from his dark debut on the ITV soap.
The show has confirmed the sinister character is back onscreen in a matter of days, with one actor reprising the role after a year. He only appeared briefly a year ago, while he debuted on the show in 2022.
But next week he’s back and it certainly leaves one resident reeling. Spoilers have confirmed that Lauren Bolton’s father Reece Bolton, played by actor Scott Anson, is back on the show next week.
Details surrounding his stint have been kept under wraps but it seems he wants to make contact with Lauren, using her baby son Frankie to do so. With Frankie still in hospital after a health scare, Lauren is shocked to receive a mystery package for the tot next week.
She soon realises who it is from and visits her estranged father in prison. The pair come face-to-face after two years, and it’s clear she isn’t happy to see him.
But what does Reece want from his daughter, and how long will he be sticking around for? Reece was imprisoned after his involvement with racist Griff and the far-right gang he was a member of.
Griff and the other far-right extremists groomed Lauren and Max Turner, trying to get Max to adopt and share their views. Things reached a sinister point after protests, with Griff orchestrating a racially-motivated attack on a teenager, before plotting a bomb attack – leading to him being charged with terror offences.
With Reece involved with the gang and participating in the attack and the bomb plan, he too was sent to prison where he has been ever since. Reece was last on screen a year ago when Max visited him after Lauren’s disappearance.
Now he is back, and Lauren visits him in prison. Actor Scott had teased the return was on the way earlier this year in a social media post.
He confirmed he was filming with Corrie again, sharing an image of a script with his name on it. He said online: “Bad boy Reece is back.” Excited fans reacted online to the news at the time.
One viewer responded: “Welcome back ‘Home’ Scott,” as a second posted: “Exciting times.” A third fan wrote: “Reece Bolton is back oooooh he’s coming back to take Lauren away and I think David and Shona will defend her.”
It’s been a difficult time for Lauren after she killed her abuser, and the father of Frankie, Joel Deering in self-defence when he tried to kill her boyfriend Max. After her guilt was exposed she faced prison, but was freed in court.
Since then her partner Max has been imprisoned over a fire at his home. Her son Frankie has been in and out of hospital for months too, recently rushed in again while he has since had successful transplant surgery.
