Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman to star in Netflix’s new Pride and Prejudice series

Published:

Pride and Prejudice is probably one of the most renowned pieces of British literature. The novel was Jane Austen’s second book, written in 1813, and since then, it has been the subject of thousands of remakes and adaptations, including stage shows, musicals, TV series, movies, and everything in between.

Now, streaming platform Netflix has started developing a new adaptation of the novel in a six-part miniseries with a star-studded cast and creative team. The series is written by Dolly Alderton, a British author known for her memoir-turned-series, Everything I Know About Love.

Netflix took to Instagram to announce the cast members and that filming is set to take place later this year in the UK. The main character, Elizabeth Bennet, will be portrayed by 29-year-old Emma Corrin, who is known for their role in The Crown.

Oscar-winning Olivia Colman will play her mother, Miss Bennet. While Jack Lowden, best known for his performance in Dunkirk, will play Mr Darcy.

Pride and Prejudice will be a reunion for Corrin and Colman. The pair already appeared onscreen together for season four of The Crown, which saw Colman portray Queen Elizabeth II and Corrin play Princess Diana. Both actors won Emmys for their performances in the series.

While there is currently no confirmed release date for the new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, many fans speculate the series will be released in 2025. However, filming is confirmed to start later this year.

Speaking on the project, Dolly told Netflix, “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”

Many fans have taken to Reddit to share their excitement. One user commented, “I know nothing about this production, but just seeing Dolly Alderton, the cast, and Netflix—I feel like I know where this is going …” Another eager fan shared, “I’ll take as many adaptations as I can get, and the cast looks solid to me. Looking forward to it.”

However, not everyone was too thrilled with another Jane Austen remake. “I don’t think another Pride and Prejudice adaptation was needed, but I’ll be watching!” one user remarked. So, whether you’re a Jane Austen fan or not, this new adaption of the iconic novel will undoubtedly be one to remember.
