Netflix are to unearth new evidence and interviews to show how Fred and Rose West were caught after horrific murders.
Next month the three-part series, Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story, will be released on the platform. The streaming giants say they have “exclusive access to previously unseen police video and unheard audio recordings” in this infamous case.
The three-part series will also show how the Gloucestershire police were able to unearth the remains of the West’s 12 victims to build a case against them that would bring closure to the families of the victims.
Netflix has previously had success with doc series about other high-profile British crime cases including the missing Maddie McCann and the murder of Jill Dando
The Fred and Rose West series features family members of some of the victims – a few of whom are speaking for the first time – giving insight into the pain and torment they went through for decades.
From discovering that their missing loved ones were brutally murdered, to the trauma they experienced and the strength they displayed during the trial.
Fred and Rose West were arrested at their family home in Cromwell Street, Gloucester, where they raped, tortured and murdered girls and young women for their sexual gratification.
At 25 Cromwell Street, the serial killers buried the bodies of most of their victims. Human remains were discovered in the basement of their Gloucester Home as well as at Fingerpost and Letterbox fields in Gloucestershire.
Fred was charged with 12 murders and in 1995 Rose, then aged 42, was convicted of 10. Rose will remain in prison until she dies and has revealed nothing about the case over the years.
Meanwhile, Fred hung himself when he was 53 before he could even stand trial, at HMP Birmingham. Many believed he took many secrets of more killings to his grave.
Fred’s admission that he strangled his daughter Heather led police officers to find the bodies of nine girls and young women, including Heather, buried in the cellar or garden.
Most of the victims were murdered in the 70s but it took over a decade before “the whole dreadful, murky business started to unravel,” said Leo Goatley, the solicitor who represented Rose from 1992 until 2004.
The lead-up to police making the gruesome discovery came after a tip-off about Fred’s eldest daughter Heather, who had not been seen since June 19, 1987.
The series Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story will be released on May 14 on Netflix.
