Wednesday devotees are in for a treat, as Jenna Ortega has appeared in an awesome first glimpse at the second season of Wednesday. Netflix dropped a tantalising trailer for the upcoming series on April 23, showcasing the eponymous heroine as she makes her way back to school with a distinct purpose.
The streaming giant disclosed the eagerly awaited official release dates for the series, setting it up in two parts. The first part, comprising six episodes, drops on August 6; the second part comes out on September 3 with two further episodes to binge.
The trailer kicks off with Wednesday breezing through airport security, nonchalantly turning in a variety of weapons from her luggage including a striking gold knuckle duster. Challenged by a security officer about any additional items, we see her coolly presenting a taser and more shock-inducing weaponry.
But it’s her factor 50 sunscreen that draws attention from security, leading to a rib-tickling twist.
Once settled back into school life, she hooks up with her pal Enid Sinclair (played by Emma Myers), whose reactions to her roomie’s antics show no signs of dulling, reports the Mirror US.
Quizzed on her feelings about returning to school, she deadpans: “Like returning to the scene of a crime. I already know where the bodies are buried.”
Adding to the anticipation, the trailer teases but keeps under wraps a major newcomer – none other than Lady Gaga. Though it’s common knowledge Gaga’s joining the lineup, with the official word out in November 2024, her character remains tantalizingly mysterious.
A sneak peek into the forthcoming season of the hit show has been released, and it promises another installment of eerily entertaining viewing. According to the synopsis: “Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await.”
In the upcoming season, Wednesday will have to contend with a multitude of challenges, from family dynamics and friendships to old adversaries, all of which will catapult her into a new year of gloriously dark and eccentric mayhem.
Equipped with her characteristic quick wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday will also find herself at the center of a new, spine-tingling supernatural mystery.
The teaser trailer has sparked excitement among fans, who have taken to YouTube to share their reactions. One fan praised the trailer, saying: “This is a perfect example of how a teaser trailer should be done. It doesn’t give away the synopsis or the plot of the entire series, but it perfectly sets the tone and the setting. That’s a teaser!”.
Another fan commended Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams, stating: “Ortega was exceptional in this, she really captured the essence of Wednesday Addams. I’m looking forward to a sequel.”
Returning cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. Steve Buscemi is also set to join the cast as the new principal of Nevermore Academy.
However, not all characters from the first season will be making a comeback, with Percy Hynes White’s character Xavier Thorpe being one of the notable absences.
Wednesday season 2 part 1 airs on Netflix on August 6
