The Last of Us’ Bella Ramsey speaks out on Joel’s death with emotional revelation

Published:

The Last of Us is currently airing on HBO and Sky, with viewers still reeling from the devastating loss of Joel, portrayed by Pedro Pascal. In a recent episode, Joel’s life was brutally cut short at the hands of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever.

The harrowing scene showed Abby coming across a horde of infected concealed beneath corpses, only to be rescued by Joel. However, she soon discovered his identity and lured him into a deadly trap.

Abby, driven by vengeance, revealed that she was the daughter of the Firefly surgeon Joel had killed.

In a fit of rage, Abby shot Joel in the leg before delivering a fatal blow with a golf club, while Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, watched in horror.

In a conversation with HBO Max, Bella and Pedro reflected on their final day of filming together. Bella recalled it being a significant event, stating, “I remember it, it was a big deal.”

TV lovers can now get Sky TV, Netflix and Discovery+ for £15 per month with the new Essential TV bundle.

This delivers live and on-demand TV without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Last of Us and Squid Game.

Pedro described the experience as “highly emotional, one of the biggest wraps I have ever had”.

Bella confessed that they and Pedro struggled to come to terms with the loss of their on-screen father figure. They shared: “It felt different, it wasn’t like a last day like ‘See you next time’, it was like, that was it. I really struggled with that.”

During the interview, Pedro became emotional as he remembered the outpouring of love and support he received from the crew. He revealed, “It was tough, I didn’t expect everyone to gather around.”

As Pedro fought back tears, Bella offered him a comforting hug.

“It was really sad,” disclosed Bella, while Pedro chimed in: “I didn’t expect you to do that to me, when we said goodbye, it was incredibly emotional.

“Maybe I was in denial about it because I was like this is much too sad to process, there is no time to process how sad this is.” Bella noted: “You were in tears.”

Prompted on what Ellie might have wished to tell Joel before his demise, Bella provided a touching response: “I guess she would have said ‘I love you’ to Joel.

“I don’t think those words are ever really brought up. Together those two are really quite repressed, like father like daughter.”

The Last of Us continues on Sunday nights on HBO and Max, with UK fans able to watch on Sky and NOW every Monday.
